WTF Wednesday

When I was at the movie theater on Sunday, I walked past two middle-aged security guards talking to each other. Just as I passed them, one said, ” I cannot wait to see all of the pathetic women who come to see that fifty shades movie. It’s my favorite weekend of the year.”

I don’t like the Fifty Shades of Grey series because I think the source material is crappy and the relationship it portrays is a dangerous one, but I understand why a lot of women loved it. So what if ladies are excited about a movie that they think is sexy? Why are they pathetic for that? What is pathetic is that women have to go to a movie to feed that piece of their lives. WHY ISN’T THAT SATISFACTION HAPPENING AT HOME? Also, how is Fifty Shades more pathetic than adults bickering over comic-based films? There were a lot of things I wanted to say to him, but decided it wasn’t worth the time.

This article about women experiencing pain during sex was eye opening. It is estimated that 75% of women experience pain with sex.

Uma Thurman’s Harvey Weinstein story is unsurprisingly awful, but what she experienced while filming Kill Bill is unbelievable. Below is the video of Thurman driving a car that she was forced into even after the stunt team deemed it unsafe. The lack of regard Tarantino has for the safety and well-being of the people working on his films is unacceptable.

Tarantino has since responded, but people still should not have to deal with this kind of abuse to make a film.

I love the Internet.

Finally, an actual Nazi and holocaust denier is the the only GOP candidate for a congressional race in Illinois. WHAT THE HELL. I am glad to see that the Illinois Republican Party has disavowed him publicly. The good people of Illinois don’t deserve this kind of crap.

I know he’s been running for office for a long time and has been losing for a long time, and that he is in a strongly Democratic district, BUT STILL.

  1. Ugh – arguing with people on the internet is exhausting enough, I can’t imagine overhearing idiots in real life. I’ve given up trying to educate my father-in-law, and only half-assed a conversation around abortion this past weekend because I just caaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan’t with him.
In fun news, though, are you listening to the Forever35 podcast? It’s been a nice alternative while I’m waiting for new episodes of MFM.

    • I don’t understand the abortion debate. If you don’t want an abortion, then don’t get one. I have not heard of that podcast, but it looks FANTASTIC. Thank you!

  2. I swear you have more self control than me because I’m pretty sure I would have turned to those security guards and told them to shut the eff up. (Of course that also could be because I’m mid-life and menopausal and don’t give a damn.)

I’m in New England, not a Patriots fan, not even really a Brady fan though I admire his athletic skillz. I have thoroughly enjoyed the various memes!

    • I thought about it, but I really don’t want to get banned from the theater because they have really great recliners and booze. The Patriots are proven cheaters. They get no respect from me.

  3. First, let me just say, your WTF Wednesday posts are my fav posts of the week.

I wonder if you answered this statement/question, “What is pathetic is that women have to go to a movie to feed that piece of their lives. WHY ISN’T THAT SATISFACTION HAPPENING AT HOME?” with what followed: “This article about women experiencing pain during sex was eye opening. It is estimated that 75% of women experience pain with sex.”

I think there are so many reasons women feed their sexual desires by seeing this kind of movie that aren’t pathetic, including, but certainly not limited to, the fact that it can be physically painful to do some of the things they’d like to do. Yet there is still the desire to engage in that sexual encounter, even if it’s just mentally (and as we know, for many women, the mental part of sex is the best part!).

    • I just wish the quality of the mental stimulation was better. Better stories, better characters, better sex scenes, better dialogue! I want ladies to get excited in whatever way they like, but I want high quality excitement!

  4. yeah…I do love your WTF posts. They are right up there with your Friday posts.

Illinois. I feel so bad for you. It’s okay, we have nutcases everywhere.

  5. An entire group of immature twats planned to flood Rotten Tomatoes with fake negative reviews of Black Panther on the opening weekend because they thought that Batman V Superman was unfairly judged, but women going to see Fifty Shades are pathetic? I don’t care for the Fifty Shades books or movies, but there is a whole thesis of movies fan I’d label pathetic before those women.

    • Oh I saw that! What a bunch of whiners. GET OVER IT. That movie was NOT GOOD. They should be outraged that such a shitty movie was made about such beloved characters. Pathetic is the men who are mad about Wonder Woman. GROW UP.

  6. I like that you refer to the Fifty Shades of Grey books as “source material.” I know that it’s technically correct, just made me giggle.

    • I know it’s snobbish, but novels should never have been made from erotic fanfic inspired by another poorly written series (featuring a shitty controlling man). I am glad that the books get ladies excited, but we deserve better writing and better characters!

  7. It’s infuriating that ANYTHING women “typically” enjoy is considered frivolous. Fashion, gossip, rom coms, erotic fiction. These are all things that women typically enjoy and are therefore classified as “less than” or pathetic. Meanwhile, diving deep into fantasy sports team is a reputable hobby or debating the nuisance of marvel v. DC is some how intellectual. Shut up, security officer. No one cares about what you think is pathetic.

    • Amen. What if we just let women enjoy the things they want to enjoy? If you can kick sex workers for five hours in a video game, then why can’t I enjoy some reality tv starring people who are desperate for fame and cry way too easily?
