No-Nap Weekend

I had a super busy, yet completely wonderful weekend. I didn’t get to sleep late or nap (the entire purpose of the weekend), but it was worth it. On Friday night, my sister and I met my dad in Round Rock to watch the local minor league.

IMG_9685 IMG_9687Ate a hot dog, enjoyed some snow cones, had a fun time. On Saturday, we ran all over town and then took my parents on one of the Austin bat watching tours as part of my mom’s Mother’s Day gift. We went with Capital Cruises and the boat left about an hour before sunset which gave us a good amount of time to cruise around and hear some of the history of the lake.  It was a nice time.

Unfortunately, the bats weren’t really in the mood to perform, so they didn’t have as spectacular an exit as anticipated. Apparently, the show is better in the hotter and dryer months.

Oh well, the scenery was great.

On Sunday morning we spent five hours waiting for barbecue, but that’s a post for another day. In the afternoon my sister and I watched Maleficent. It was MAGNIFICENT. I just can’t even explain it. I loved the story, I loved Angelina, I loved EVERYTHING. It was so female focused and there was so much outside of the hunt for true love. Although, if they did need a new title, I think it could just as easily gone with “He Brought This Upon Himself” or “Fat Babies Are Irresistible.” It’s a great lesson in treating people with decency. I just want to watch it over and over again. I cannot recommend it enough. It was more spectacular than I could have ever imagined.

It was nice to have some joy in my life before the horror that was the last ten minutes of Game of Thrones.

That was so march harder to see than it was to read. Also, it’s about damn time Sansa has black hair. I’m not sure the point of it now, but FINALLY.

I like when friends and family visit me on the weekends, but I really hate how it cuts into my weekend nap time. A lot of Sundays, I take two naps.

My daughter and I went to see Maleficent on Sunday and I also absolutely loved it!!! And I’m usually not a big Angelina fan…but wow. It got me thinking, if they had not been interrupted- what should the third fairy have wished for Aurora? Intelligence? Kindness? Honesty? I just don’t know. I was feeling quite existential in the theater with my tub of popcorn.

We had that same conversation. I feel like she was about to say “love,” which would have been perfect because it happened anyway. I loved Angelina in it and her trying to be mean with the “beasty” business. So cute.

As a non-reader of the actual books, I was taken for a mad surprise at the end of that episode……I was ranting on to my husband about how we needed to rewatch the fight after it finished. He’s read the whole series and I should’ve noticed him cringing when I said that. I was blinded, I didn’t want to believe that the Mountain would win.

Also, it’s getting to the point where killing off major characters has lots its shock factor and is now pissing me off. I really hope I don’t have to quit watching GOT because I LOVE Peter Dinklage. Clearly, there is adequate mourning to be done on my side here.

Also, I am going to miss Sansa’s gorgeous red hair. I know that’s weird but having had jet black hair my whole life, I’m envious of anything not this color.

If it makes you feel better, I knew it was coming and was still devastated. I felt so horrible because my sister and my friend were so happy and then they were like WHAT IS YOUR FACE DOING RIGHT NOW. I couldn’t even hide it. He made Oberyn such a fantastic character. I will miss him far more than any Stark. I too loved Sansa’s gorgeous hair. God, if I had the money to buy that color. But, it’s an important part of her story, so whatever.

How many batman jokes did you make?

  8. Wait, people nap on the weekend? Can you tell my kids?

Speaking of kids, I was thinking of taking The Princess to see Maleficent. Do you think it’s too scary?

I said at one point during that movie that it would have scared me as a child. But I’m pretty easily frightened. It’s pretty intense.
