We left Kottayam bright and early and made our way to Alleppy. When we arrived we were welcomed by 20 of the friendliest people ever. Normally, our hosts are very nice and hospitable, but it takes a while to get everyone warmed up. This group was ready to chat like crazy right out of the gate. We headed to lunch and we got to sit and talk to some people our age for once.
We always enjoy talking to young women because we quickly realize how similar we are. And we all love shoes. Bound by the sisterhood of heels.
After lunch we went to visit a Hindu temple. I am constantly left in complete wonder and awe at the intricacy of the woodwork here.
And we trekked barefoot across the hottest sand ever. At least some locals got a laugh watching us squeel and hop across the sand like idiots.
Below are small lamp wells that are filled with oil and lit with a string at night during the festival season. The entire temple is covered in them and it looks like it is on fire. Unfortunately, we weren’t there at night, but one of our hosts had pictures. It was incredible.
We found some rolls (OMG ROLLS!!!!!) on our way to the next temple and enjoyed a mid-afternoon snack.
We were way too excited about them. It’s nice to have a friend who gets just as excited as I do about some good quality bread. Eating alone is no fun. After the carb-loading, we moved on to a snake temple. As you can imagine, it was covered in snake carvings.
Afterward we went straight to our evening Rotary meeting which was held on an old boat on a rice plantation. It was so beautiful.
We were supposed to take a good picture, but the straw got stuck in her teeth and we could not stop laughing. Got to makes those meetings fun somehow.

Great pix once again. All meetings should occur on boats! So there’s lots of napping going on at the Hindu temples?
Great photos. Are you exhausted? Meetings every night?
you’re a dork and i miss you
I was totally wondering all of these things. I feel like every one of your days last 13-15 hours. How are you functioning? And how are you doing any laundry (as I recall you took virtually no clothing)?
Your pictures are amazing! You are so lucky!
I am completely entranced by the absolute gorgeous pictures you are putting up. The colors are so vibrant, the temples are so intricate, and the people all seem so warm and welcoming with beautiful souls. I now want to go to India so so bad. I’m so happy you’re posting so often, keep it up!
I LOVED Kerala. It was my favorite part of my 5-week Indian adventure a couple of years ago. Keralan food is AMAZING.
